Introduction: Leos LA Game Master Drop
I checked it. Here is the dirt on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Ritas Rewind straight out of LA.
Word up is Leo here your City of Angels local game master.
I love gaming and am kicking it at 3215 Overland Ave Los Angeles California 90034. I have been somewhat involved in the gaming scene for some time dropping truth bombs on the newest releases.
Power Rangers in the Modern Era: A Retro Revival
The moment with the Power Rangers Right now it is quite trippy. Haim Saban dipped Hasbro rolled in and things seem different.
New TV seasons seem more like the old school fare or perhaps the OG Japanese Super Sentai than anything else. But for the beloved Power Rangers still major.
Power Rangers Battle for the Grid and this new one Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Ritas Rewind show it.
Ritas Rewind resonates strongly with that old feel.
Even the graphics while slightly harsher would completely match back in the day.
Gameplay: A Modern Beat Em Up with Classic Vibes
For the original MMPR crew backinthe90s beatemops and battle games were the craze.
But Ritas Rewind is completely modern far more into the action than Battle for the Grid was a fresh combatant for today.
This game tosses Robo Rita from that Netflix film Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Once & Always along with the classic Rita Repulsa.
You represent the original Power Rangers battling via remixed classic events. Though brief it is packed with excitement.
Visuals and Sound: A Love Letter to MMPR
Real Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Ritas Rewind is a straight forward love letter for MMPR. The lively pixel artwork? Scott Pilgrim v.
the World The Game and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredders Revenge has that vibe. But get this: the crew behind TMNT is Digital Eclipse.
The Cowabunga Collection created nottribute games for cooking. Peep this the game even begins with a VCR filter which is very odd since without it the images are clean AF.
The soundtrack smashes fragments of that famous MMPR theme. And regarding the new voice acting?
completely nails the original Rangers even picking certain XMen 97 sounds you would know. Being a lifetime enthusiast the focus on these subtleties really draws me in.
Multiplayer and Unlockables: Getting the Squad Together
You can enter Ritas Rewind in the kicks of the original colorcoded Power Rangers. You can have six homies play offline just as Shredders Revenge allows.
Online performance? For now just two players but in updates they show promise. You also only receive five Ranger slots at first.
After your first runthrough you have to release the Green Ranger Tommy Oliver. Its a little unfortunate that you cannot roll with the entire squad immediately.
Still it provides a motivation for you to play it once more rather than only speedrunning and snatching relics. Having such unlockables adds to the replay value from my experience.
Gameplay Variety: Solo vs. Multiplayer Beat Down
Mostly multiplayer is the reason one should return to Ritas Rewind. The game seems different based on the number of players you have on hand. Solo?
Its classic beatemup with interesting gameplay modulates to keep you excited. Despite a somewhat limited fundamental movement set you can delve into the specifics and master the several playstyles independently.
Using your staff? Its a blast since it becomes an insane alloverthescale fight.
With those genre changes Ritas Rewind maintains the high adrenaline level even transforming the Megazord PunchOut battles into a pass the controller party.
Though the action can be a touch tight and the hitboxes sometimes seem odd its still a fantastic time even if things calm down. Trust me this is where it shines get the homies together.
The Angel Grove Youth Center: A Hub of Nostalgia
Back at the center between levels lies the venerable Angel Grove Youth Center. And it is loaded with MMPR love.
The Rangers are dressed in civilian attire Bulk and Skull are clowning about in the backdrop you can even play basic arcade games.
This hub really captures the love poured into this genremashive event. You will find shoutouts for early seasons fan humor as well as even Power Rangers production trivia all throughout.
Finding every Easter egg would almost take the same time as playing the complete game. For a devoted fan these elements are pure gold.
Length and Value: A Short but Sweet Experience
But here is the important point. Powerful Morphine Rangers of Power Ritas Rewind only clocks in two to three hours rather short.
For a $34.99 USD game that is rather short and for a vintage arcade beatemup nearly too fast.
Driving minigames Dinozord pieces and fullon Megazord clashes you have shooting galleries breaking up all the Putty Patrol punchin.
The manager fights? They creatively present some of the most recognizable Power Rangers creatures.
Still would the cost be justified? That is under your control fam. For my dollar I personally always want more bang.
Gameplay Depth: Modern Beat Em Up Limitations
The central gameplay is another topic that could cause disagreement. Ritas Rewind is a good modern beatemup although its following recent 2D brower wave so it might not blow genre veterans away.
Its cool since it keeps the enemy AI fair and lets you get creative with your actions particularly in multiplayer so avoiding the problems of the Scott Pilgrim game.
Though it could be younger to this genre it lacks the character development and depth of Shredders Revenge and Scott Pilgrim which sort of reflects Digital Eclipse.
The worst offender in consistent gameplay? Apart from their final assaults the Rangers feel somewhat similar at least their shared motions feel excellent.
Final Verdict: Nostalgia Driven Fun
Bottom line Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Fans of Power Rangers will most certainly enjoy a small but sturdy box called Ritas Rewind.
And your pals who are not diehards can nonetheless enjoy themselves playing alongside. Late 90s arcades would have seen this game destroy it.
Its excellence and affection of the source material ensure it should find its audience particularly with that Once & Always special it comes from. Though some elements other games in the genre excel at Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Still a great ride Ritas Rewind most likely wont be regretted. The element of nostalgia is really important for me.
Leos Score: 7/10
Seven out of ten is the final verdict. It fell on December 10 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S PC PS4 PS5 Switch. Game Rant gave us up with a PC code for our review.
Pros and Cons: The Breakdown
Great music and images abound in Pros Faithful Power Rangers. Playerbased multiplayer is fantastic. Cons have Short for an AA game long for a beatemup online multiplayer limited to two at launch regular combat can feel superficial.
Leo signing off from LA here. Go Go Power Rangers!
